Are you an experienced creative leader used to managing high performing art or design teams?  Would you like to help deliver world class books and boxed game products which inspire and excite Warhammer 40,000 fans around the world?

This is a brand new senior position leading the visual design for Games Workshop’s biggest brand, and is responsible for driving the strategic vision for the look-and-feel of Warhammer 40k products and related IP.

Reporting to the Warhammer 40,000 Studio Manager, you will be the steward of visual quality on our Warhammer 40k products, having overall responsibility for creating and maintaining visual style guides and you will manage Team Leaders in the areas of Packaging, Photography and Graphic Design as well directly leading a team of Illustrators, with overall responsibility for approximately 20 staff.

You will build, manage and develop a team of freelance illustrators as well as develop pipelines for future in-house illustrators ensuring we always have the right people for any task. You will work closely with the Product Developers and Scheduler to ensure both quality and on-time delivery as well as collaborating with Marketing, Licensing, and other internal teams and external partners as appropriate.

In addition to this, you’ll be resolute in your commitment to raising the visual quality of our Warhammer 40,000 books and boxed games, using your experience of managing a team of creatives and your love of art and design to get the best results. Your creative judgement will be right at the heart of it all!

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Proven experience in a similar role such as Art or Creative Director, leading, managing and developing creative teams within table top gaming/video games, entertainment,  marketing or other creative industries.
  • Experience in graphic design, concept art or Illustration 

In addition the following will aid your application;

  • An understanding of commercial illustration 
  • An empathy with the Science fiction or Fantasy genres
  • Experience of commissioning freelance artists.
