About the Job
At Games Workshop, we’re committed to making the Warhammer hobby and our business even better by making the best fantasy miniatures in the world, engaging and inspiring our customers, and growing our business profitably for the long term.
To help us achieve that, we’re looking for a Head of Retail to lead our European retail operation across a vast and varied territory, including Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Poland, the UK and beyond…
You’ll be based at one of our office sites; however, you’ll spend a lot of time travelling across the regions, visiting stores, developing staff, and making sure our standards are being lived.
Warhammer stores are unlike other retail chains. They are places of discovery. Places where a curious passer-by becomes a hobbyist. Where someone paints their first miniature, plays their first game and can join their local hobby community. Our stores succeed because passionate, capable people create experiences that inspire customers to return again and again.
Your job will be to lead the people who make that happen.
You’ll oversee a large, multi-national retail organisation of more than 500 people through a structure of senior managers, store managers and operational staff. You will ensure our Retail Strategy is implemented consistently and correctly across every territory, regardless of store size, or local challenges. This is not about allowing every region to invent its own version of success. It is about understanding what works for our business, executing it brilliantly and improving it relentlessly.
You will be expected to grow sales profitably, control costs and build an organisation strong enough to support our future growth. You will know how to balance commercial performance with long-term capability. You will hire well, develop future leaders and deal directly with underperformance when required. You will understand that clear expectations, regular feedback and measurable standards matter.
Most importantly, you will lead in a way that reflects our culture.
We value people who strive to understand what the business needs, not what is easiest or most comfortable. We value people who can honestly assess themselves and their teams on where they fall short, who are humble enough to want to do better and courageous enough to take action. We want someone who can confront challenges directly, insist on high standards, and still bring energy, enthusiasm and momentum to the people around them.
You should already have substantial experience managing large teams in a commercial, retail or sales environment, ideally across multiple countries and cultures. Experience managing managers is essential. Experience building high-performing retail operations at scale is highly desirable. You must be organised, commercially aware and able to keep sight of the important things while operating in a fast-moving environment.
This is not a role for someone who wants to maintain the status quo. It is for someone who wants to continuously improve what we do and support our forever ambitions.
If you’re motivated by responsibility, driven by results and excited by the challenge of managing one of the most unique retail businesses in the world, then we’d love to hear from you.
Working at Games Workshop
At Games Workshop we are looking for people who will do their best to understand the needs of the company and to put those needs first when they are at work. Because of this we believe that what you are like, hence the attitude you show to work and the way you choose to behave is even more important than your skills and experience.
The Warhammer World site is based just outside of Nottingham city centre and benefits from a nearby tram stop and free onsite car parking.
In return for your hard work, you will receive 33 days holiday per year (including public holidays), matching contributory pension scheme up to 7.5%, profit share bonus (subject to GW meeting profit targets) and option to join our Share Save scheme. Oh and let’s not forget, a staff discount of between 25% and 50% on our products!
