About the Job

The Benefits Specialist is an integral part of a company’s HR (The People Team) department. They are responsible for managing and administering a company’s employee benefit programs, from retirement plans and health insurance to life insurance and beyond.

Benefits Specialists have an in-depth knowledge of both benefits and the federal, state, and provincial laws that govern them for both U.S. and Canada. They’re also the go-to person for both new hires and long-standing employees looking to make the most out of what their employer offers.

Provide, Duties and Responsibilities for U.S. & Canada:
• Research, analyze, and administer healthcare plans and wellness programs, from medical and dental benefits to disability and family leave
• Assist with the administration of all benefits and retirement programs
• Assist with the open enrollment process
• Processes and administers all leave-of-absence requests and disability paperwork: medical, personal, disability, FMLA, and employee life status changes.
• Prepare and execute all regulatory filings, compliance, and annual audits.
• Appeal decisions made by insurance companies, resolve disputes, and solve problems with benefits and compensation programs
• Perform quality checks of benefits-related data
• Ensures the accuracy of all benefits enrollments in the HRIS to provide vendors with accurate eligibility information.
• Assists with new-hire orientations.
• Assists employees regarding benefits claim issues and plan changes.
• Distributes all benefits enrollment materials and determines eligibility.
• Responds to benefits inquiries from managers and employees on plan provisions, benefits enrollments, status changes and other general inquiries.
• Effectively interprets FMLA and ADA implications as they relate to leaves of absences/disabilities.
• Provides necessary reports for allocation/billing charges.

Other Essential Information

Minimum Qualifications:
• 10-15 years of related experience
• Research and analytical skills
• Organizational and time management skills
• Verbal, oral, and written communication skills
• Knowledge of employee benefits and laws
• Computer proficiency
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of employee matters.
• Ability to effectively manage time and responsibilities.
• Ability to be professional in appearance, attitude, and demeanor.

Mental/Motor Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee rarely performs routine work. The employee frequently exercises flexibility (ability to shift from one task to another). The employee frequently works within time constraints and maintains attentiveness intensity. The employee is frequently involved in social interactions which require excellent oral and written communications.
