About the Job

Trainee Freeform Engineer

Games Workshop will train you to help create the tools that produce the best fantasy miniatures in the world!

In this trainee position, you will work as a part of our talented toolroom team that contributes to making our world-class miniatures. This is a computer-based role and involves using a haptic device, Geomagic TouchX and Freeform software. This device is normally used within a design environment, but for this role it is purely used for tooling preparation purposes only. This is not a design role!

You will learn how to use the latest 3D Tooling software to produce error-free digital files, ensuring the files represent what the Miniature Designers intended while at the same time meeting the standards necessary for them to be used in an injection mould tool.

Our Toolroom receives product designs from the Studio that have been designed to be manufactured in plastic. Your role is to analyse and enhance these, ready for our tooling process. This requires meticulous attention to detail and effective communication skills, as you will discuss the designs with design teams to agree on any adjustments required to ensure accurate production into a steel mould tool while adhering to the initial designs.

Precision is essential, so the final process is to check each other’s work and to export the parts for the next process, in which our tool designers make the injection mould tool.

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a genuine interest in Engineering, thrive on new challenges and enjoy working in an environment where you will be expected to continually challenge what you do and to improve it. This unique opportunity could offer you the chance to forge an exciting career in Engineering. Once you have proved yourself as a Freeform Engineer there may be future opportunities to progress into Tool Design as a Trainee!

You will need to develop great relationships and have the right conversations with the right people at the right time. Building credibility is essential to ensure that the sweet spot between incredible design and practical production is hit every time.

Intensive training is provided for this unique opportunity. It can take over a year to be competent in this role so patience and dedication are required to succeed.
